Cloged catalytic converter? Plug missing from exhaust? 700

I thank all who have replied to my earlier post.
This is a on going post to my on going dilema. My car has been running very squeamish. It all as a slight shake and is louder then usual. Replaced all of the following- mototr mounts, harmonic balancer, plugs, cap, rotor etc (some were done because they were due)

My latest problem may be the final solution to my problem.
I was driving my car earlier this morning and got on the gas real hard to pass a car (also was racing some kid in a honda). All of a sudden there was a quick pop and the exhaust got real loud. Crawled under the passenger side and there is a hole directly below the pass. seat. A perfect nickel size round hole. I'm wondering if there was a plug(metal expansion type)that came out. Could it be that the plug comes out in the case of a clogged catalytic converter. I checked the faq's and don't have the tester available. If it is indeed clogged can I just hollow it out w/ out harming any of the engine diagnosis?
Thanks As all ways!
CJ
