244 exhaust problems 200 1992

Hello all. 2 weeks ago, my exhaust header pipe broke and I had Midas replace it for me ($178) last friday, and all has been well, but since then the car has seemed to grow louder. Not nearly as loud without the pipe, but noticable, especially in 1st gear (it's an automatic). I'm wondering if there could be something restricting the air flow and maybe blowing a gasket? I asked the guy if my cat looked ok, and he said yes. He knocked on it and it sounded hollow, with no rattling (good, right? it's not deteriorating?). It's got pretty good pressure/output at the end. I'm due for an oil change, but other than that, I can't think of any solutions. I'm thinking the cat might be bad afterall. The rest of the system (after the cat) is pretty rusty, and I'll need to replace it soon, but I can't afford to at the time being.

TIA, experts,
Seth
