ac fan stays on, acceleration alters fan speed (740 turbo) 700

an 86 740 turbo,

the ac/heater/vent fan stays on. when accelerating, the "fan" noise will stop, and then return after reaching cruise speed.

is this a serious time bomb kind of problem?
