Troubleshooting the A.C. electrical... 200

I just got an '86 240 wagon with Ac that doesn't work, so I made it a first priority. Currently, the system does not switch on; turning the AC switch doesn't actuate the compressor clutch or make any other relays click.

Everything under the hood has continuity, all the way back to the main AC switch, but the switch is not receiving power. Yes, The compressor clutch solenoid actuated when 12V is applied directly.

From looking at the schematic, it appears that the power for the AC main switch is the R-W wire that comes through the 5 position (off,1,2,3,4) fan/blower switch. When the fan is off, I would expect that the AC would be disabled, also, like in most cars. UNFORTUNATELY, the switch never sends any voltage out through that R-W wire. I even got another switch and tested both for continuity through every pole and every switch position (the only time any continuity is present for the R-W wire pole is when the fan is in the off position, and the connection is made with the SB (fan pos 1) pole. WHY?! I took the switch apart and it's fine inside.

I also do not understand the function of the delay relay. Is it supposed to provide the 12V to power the AC sytem, instead? My car shows 12V coming in on the Bl-Y wire, but nothing on the R wire (which comes down from the gauge cluster) I tried jumping 12V to the R pole, but heard nothing. Did I not wait long enough (delay relay?) or is the relay bad?

One more thing. There is a solenoid located down stream from the main AC switch. It has one wire coming from the main switch, leading into it, and a ground leading out. What could this solenoid possibly do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope someone understands what I'm going through here. I have enlisted the help of some very capable people who also do not understand everything that's happening in this schematic.
