Dome light switch on steering wheel? 200 1985

I went yarding today and I came across something that I have not really noticed before. I was in a silver '85 244DL and noticed that right as I was going to pull out the cluster, there was a rocker switch mounted on the left side of the steering wheel. This rocker switch is the same size as the hazard switch, defroster, etc. I'm almost positive it is for the dome light, as it has a picture of a car with a light bulb towards the roof of the car. The rocker switch can be set on three positions, OFF/1/2.

The dome light cover was already off and it had two light bulbs installed.

Did all (or most) pre-1986 240s have this feature? I picked up the switch for the heck of it.

Thanks,
Eric Staufer
