Hello all :)
Within the past few months (say late May to present), I've used my 1984 244 as a "spare car", mainly due to the fact that the A/C compressor is shot, and I get heat sick. However, due to my irresponsibility, the battery is dead, and I can't find a replacement anywhere. I've tried K-Mart, Pep Boys, Strauss....nobody carries it. I'd much rather buy my own battery than have a mechanic drop it in and charge me not only for the battery, but also for the one hour's labor. Is there anywhere on-line I can go to purchase a battery for this car? If not, does anyone here know where I can get one in the NJ area? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but when an auto-parts store tells you that it's a special order part (with an unavailable price, to boot), you try every resource you can.
My next question.....as said, the car's A/C compressor is shot. I'm assuming this, because the bearings are as noisy as can be. The car has 250K miles on it. Is the compressor worth replacing, or can I just have the bearings fixed? The car runs great, and passed inspection on the first shot back in October.
