Latch broken on middle seat 740 wagon 700 1988

I went to put the 3/4 middle seat down in our 740 wagon the other day, and the plastic handle/latch on the back of the seat broke off completely. Any tips for getting the seat down and/or replacing the latch? I've tried to grab the plastic that's still there with needle nose pliers, but there's nothing to grab onto.
