Belt slippage when AC is on. 200

I recently bought a 1993 245 wagon with 42000 miles on it. I drove it for a couple of weeks locally before taking it on a 600 mile round trip. On this road trip, I started to hear a new sound that I had not heard in the local driving, but that may have been because I had others in the car so the radio was off. Anyway, it was a regular short squeak, about every 15 seconds. I brought it to the shop and they said that it was the belt slipping when the air conditioner clutch kicks in. They said they had seen it befroe on 240's and to not worry about it. Well, I found that the noise does go away if I turn off the AC. The belt is tensioned properly. But the noise is annoying.

Is this a common problem on 240's ? I don't believe that from the shop.

Is there something wrong with the clutch that is momentarily binding ?

Maybe the belt is glazed and slippery and should be replaced ?
