Weak instrument lights 200

(I am referring to the illumination lamps controlled by the rheostat, not to the warning lights.)

It could be my ageing eyes, but I seem to remember that the instrument lights were quite a bit brighter when my beloved "Sven Göran" was new 15 years ago. Does this sound rheostat related, or should I look elsewhere? Filament bulbs are normally OK until they die, aren't they?

Erling.
