All those postings regarding the importance of an un-clogged flame trap on this list have made me quite uneasy about the condition of mine. But after unsuccessful searches with lamp and mirror, I was starting to doubt if my engine (1987 B230K with Solex carb) even HAVE a flame trap. Of course I was wrong - I kind of suspected that.
When stopping by the local wrecker's yard today to look for a set of Virgos, I found an '86 with a B230A with the carb removed. So I took the opportunity to rip out the exposed flame trap to bring home for closer studies. After having seen how this gizmo looks in the flesh, I had no trouble feeling my way into the darker regions under my car's intake to locate the flametrap housing and the two hoses and dismount them for cleaning.
So instead of having a clean flame trap I now have an ultra-clean flame trap! Oh well, even if the job turned out to be needless, it was still valuable as a learning experience. My point is, those of you who (like me) are timid to rip out motor parts you cannot even see may (like me) have good use of practising on a junked car in the wrecker's yard.
No, I didn't find any Virgos. I did bring home a set of Coronas though, for my winter tires. 'All' I have to do now, is to sandblast those 25x4 spokes for priming and painting... Is my relation to my brick Real Love or not??
