Headliner question 700 1986

Hi everyone. I finally gave up and took the cardboard piece (in three pieces) to an upholstery shop. I had the IPD kit already and they used the fabric.

Two problems I need help with:

The fabric is the 1/4" stuff, so t is so thick that it makes it impossible for the dome light to connect to its clips. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Next, the front plastic trim piece that goes across the top of the windshield can't reach its clips. The headliner is held up nicely by the visors and rear view mirror, but I want to get that trim piece up there for a more finished look.

Any suggestions?

I am sticking to projects that involve nuts and bolts. No more clips and glue.

THANK YOU!
