Uneven idle problem- '85 244 GLT 200 1985

Hi everyone, I'm having idle problems with my '85 turbo. It's had this for some time, but it went away. I replaced the engine wireharness today (which was reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy bad) and now the idle problem's back and I'd like to fix it. What it does is after I turn it on it's fine and runs smoothly, but after giving it some gas, or after stopping it idles poorly. It drops to about 500 RPM then catches and goes to about 1100 RPM, then repeats and just keeps doing that. There is a small eshaust leak near the manifold at a seal, could this affect the idle, maybe uneven back pressure? Any suggestions on fixing this would be great. Thanks
