Cam driven distributor on 940

I had the same concern the first time I saw that configuration. Turns out it very easy, just use a box-end wrench. I think there are 2 or 3 8mm bolts that hold the cap on, and 2 or 3 10mm bolts that hold the distributor on the head. All of them are rather easily accessible. It looks like it's much harder to get it off than it really is.
