Tips for changing diff fluid in newer cars 700 1992

I changed the fluid in my rear end this weekend. I have the locking diff that I think was standard on 92s and optional thereafter.

I had originally thought that I could just pump out the old fluid and pump in the new but I read in the FAQ that its hard to do because of clearance. It also didn't seem like a very good way to get a good fluid exchange. So I planned on taking the back cover off and using a new gasket (high temp silicone).

I also read in the FAQ that it may be possible to drain the diff using the bottom bolt on the rear cover. This worked on mine. I had a stuck drain/fill plug and my diff was starting to leak around the sides so I took the rear cover off anyway.

Three things that may be helpful:
1. Take the sway bar off before you start if you're planning on removing the rear cover. Its almost impossible if you don't.
2. You can drain using the bottom bolt.
3. Its probably a good idea to remove/reseal the back cover if its never been done or you haven't seen the inside of your rear end in a while.
