Removing driver airbag 900 1993

I'm parting out a '93 960 and am trying to figure out how to remove the driver airbag (preferably without it blowing up in my face). There don't seem to be externally accessible screws or whatever on the steering wheel, and I've (carefully) tried to pry it out without much success.

Is it just a matter of prying harder, or does anyone of you know the trick to removing the airbag unit?
