swapping camshafts

Thanks, shouldn't be a problem then. Just torque the caps to proper spec, no worries, right?

That head's rumored to have been rebuilt recently (or so the PO told me, I bought that wreck mainly for the head, interior and doors/trunklid), and looking at the shim thickness I am inclined to believe it. It'll go to the machine shop for a quick clean, resurface and check anyway (shouldn't set me back more than $50-$100 or so).

Oh well, I'll lose some power anyway over new spec (going from 531 head w/ vx cam to 530 head w/ same vx), but should still be a tremendous increase over the current worn head. Volvo minimum shim thickness is 3.4mm, I'm running 2.7 on 2 exhaust valves and the damn thing blows, and shakes, and roars when you give it a bit of gas. Definately past its prime.

Oh well, when you're running on propane you just resign yourself to heads being mileage limited consumables (100K "nominal", 200K if you've been very good and kind to animals).

Bram
