Messieurs, Dames,
Looks like this '83 245DL will be last fossil fueled vehicle I may ever own!
Body near A-1, manual says del. in Santa Monica, CA 20 yrs. ago. Car is so clean, fixing things is proverbial walk in park. Repairing rusty '91 Toyota Celica (just a radiator!) was recent reality chek. Cleveland is a dirty place, esp. in winter.
Truly, I heard once Volvo is kar for those who hate kars--would rather be on two feet, bicycle, canoe or sailboat quite frankly.
Wiring in this (beige) beast has some weak points, lost feed to ignition coil recently for ex. Have also gone to electric cooling fan and see more electric mods. down the pipe. 12 V is only so much potential, these cars have lots of wiring, need good cicuits. New High-tech deep cycle batts. can crank an engine and allow mobile RV-type draining/recharge. I'll bet the Swedes developed it!
Have had a hard time coming up w/ good quality wire ends/connectors from auto and hdwe. outlets that ressemble original factory type (spades, Hooks, eyelets, ythe crimp on type).
Like much one buys these days, things are now "simulated" as in cheap knock-offs that look like the original but are made of inferior material. Y'all know what I mean. Shiny whitish conductors that bend and break at the worst moments and are unforgiving to work with. What is this modern merde metal?
Tried a "marine" store's wiring section, connectors were same as NAPA/Autozone but at 2-3 X the price.
Need good quality DC stuff, what did Edison use? Should I look for free/cheap stuff in dumps/flea markets? It might be coppper.
Solar electric supply might be possible source, but alas this is fuel-guzzling neck of woods.
