Intermittent warm start problem????? 900 1991

The car runs fine as long as its fairly cool or cold weather,
Show it a hot day or stand in traffic for more than about 15 mins and it'll cut out with no attempting to restart for at least 5-10 mins (infuriating when your sat at traffic lights) The only consistent warning light is the coolant level indicator, Checked fuses. Fine, checked fuel pump when the problem rears its orrible head. dead.
Could it be a faulty sensor breaking down in the heat or a cold start sensor missfiring?
Do the 900 series have knock detectors in or near the engine bay which shut down the fuel pump in the event of a bump?
HELP PLEASE
