eng wiring harness 84 240 auto w/b23 fuel inj 200 1984

Hi,
I have an 84 240 sdn with the b23 fuel inj engine with 190,000 miles. Needless to say the wiring harness is crumbling and we located the trouble area. It is the wires on the female side of the gray connector near the firewall. There appears to be only 5 wires in this connector and they are all bare ..!!! It's hard to believe that this volvo was able run at all.?..The insulation is completely gone. My question is...Where do they go, what was shorting out, and what is the correct color code? I'd like to reroute just these 5 wires before I go to the expense of a new wiring harness. Makes sense, hope so...?? Please help. Thank you.
