That flex-circuit stuff is awfully tough to deal with. If you're handy with a soldering iron, some fine wire can be soldered across breaks in the copper. Scrape the insulation layer with an exacto knife or similar. If you aren't sure about doing this, don't try. Alternately, Radio Shack and some auto supply stores sell conductive paint for repairing things like this, and for fixing rear window defrosters, etc. Worth a try before you chuck it and get another one from the junkyard....
