Resolution of AC Saga 700

Here is the rest of the story! We tried to check the pressures. I have a friend who is in the ac business. His connectors on his 134 guages were so big that he could not get his snap on connector on the high side fitting. (located on the compressor, too close to another pipe.) (Need to look for an extension) He did look at the low side and felt, based on the low side pressure, that the pressures might be ok. When we saw the clutch quit on rev up we did not worry any more about pressure.

Also the clutch did not kick in for a rather long time. Yesterday the clutch delayed a long time too. I did a visual inspection in daylight and found a detached ground wire and a missing rear bracket bolt. Scratching the wire on the compressor turned the clutch on! Replaced the bolt and wire! Back in business. Not noticing any frequent on off cycle with the clutch, which could indicate low pressure.

This was a graphic demonstration of the reason for ground wires on Alternators and AC compressors

At the beginning of the trouble shooting I also found that the Vacuum hose on the heater water valve was off. In checking that out I notice that the valve never seems to move when I turn the temprature dial on the dash. ( 3 switch panel, blower speed, air direction, temprature. I get heat or no heat with the temp control ok, but I'd have thought that the valve should cycle. (Valve diaphragm is OK)

The last owner replaced a lot of things during the 120,000 mile check that apparently were considered life limited, including some relays and fuel pressure regulator, Vacuum check valve, and the heater valve.

Thanks for all the inputs
Regards

Woody
