I agree with that.
I've drilled the corners of a few 244 taillights (Um ok, a LOT) to prevent bulb failure. IT's the last-ditch repair before giving up and replacing the whole taillight.
Usually a 1/16 to 3/32 drill is sufficient to drain the housings and still not be noticable. Drill upward at a 45° angle from the outer rear corners. You can see where the "floor" of the reflector is. Probably get a spoonful of water out of it.
If the bulbs come out WHITE or splotchy colored, or half-shattered, the problem is certainly water intrusion. Nothing seems to seal them up properly either. Use a paper towel or similar to dry out inside the housing before replcing the bulb (Again).
