Short version. Long detailed version e-mail me for it.
Check fluid level.
Following can be done with engine off, ignition on, shift lever in 4th.

1. Does dash light react with push of button?
a. Yes, it goes on and off. Look at the wires to and on the solenoid on the OD unit. Dirty, corroded, loose terminals and broken wires hidden by insulation. If all good change actuating piston seals which requies R&R of OD.

b. No, it is always off. List in order of probability.
Fuse #11, 4th gear switch on tranny,(push button holding lever more to right and rear in 4th to put more pressure on switch.. wiggle), button on or wires to shift lever, relay(rare), relay ground(even more rare. Windshield leak just above glove box).
