When Turbo Is Activated, Car Shakes and Hesitates!!!??? 200

Hello All,
I just redid my head gasket friday, my exhaust manifold was cracked, and I came across a manifold with a turbo on it, the turbo was garbage so we used the manifold and my existing turbo. Now the car is running, but whenever I drive it and go into the "yellow" on the boost gauge, it hesitates and chugs. Once I get it about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way into the yellow it is fine. My dad noticed a hole in the hose that goes to the boost gauge regulator and fixed the hose, but it didn't help. What could be the problem? I was thinking maybe the waste gate is stuck open but I'm not sure...Also does anyone know what the cylinder type thing, with a ceramic core, is on the very bottom of the exhaust??? This would help greatly also. We were thinking it was an O2 censor or something but we dont know how this would be possible. Please HELP!!??? I am at a loss and I need help. Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to hearing from all that have any knowledge of this.
