Trans question on 88' Volvo 780 Bertone 700 1988

Hey i got a question on the transmission for this car. Has anyone else incounted a problem with it getting stuck, not being able to shift it into drive, i can get N and R but will not shift into drive (auto trans 71 AW i think?) could be the gear shifter linkage or some thing inside the tranny. It has 218,000 miles on it.

I really don't have the cash to fix it now, and looking in selling the best Volvo i have ever owned. Would be a great car to drop a Mustane 5.0 V8 into. Anyone looking to buy?
