Charging light and gauge. 700 1987

Just swapped out my wiring harness. Driving the two hours home from my folks, (hey, dad's got the air-conditioned garage, air tools, digital voltmeter. Beats the driveway at my place) I noticed that the charging gauge was hanging in the low red (< 10V )and then the idiot lamo started glowing very dimly. Have I screwed something up. Seems everything else is fine. Car runs great. I've searched the other posts for this problem but have found nothing to help me.

Thanks
