Carberettor cross road. 120-130

With cooler weather settling in I am noticing the off idle flat spot getting more pronounced. Fattening up the mixture a couple of flatts helped but then came the after run when turning off the engine. I removed the carbs and inspected the throttle shafts....pretty bad. I found a bad wear spot on one side of the throttle shaft as well as worn throttle bore.

So far I can figure on $70.00 to rebush the carbs and a kit from swedish classics that has jets, needles, float valves, gaskets, throttle shafts, throttle plates, and screws. Pretty much everything an SU needs for about $130.00 plus freight.

I see ads in Rolling for carb rebuilding, rebushing, and refurbishing prices ranging from $130.00 plus freight to $300.00 freight paid.

I have even reciently descovered a weber conversion with a K&N filter on a formerly injected B20 out of a 142E. I can get this whole package for $150.00.

Question one: Has anyone used any of these overhaul service providers from the classafieds in rolling? How was the work? What would you recomend?

Question two: Is there a cheeper place to get a quality rebuild kit with throttle shafts, plates, jets ect.?

Question three: What are your thoughts on the plus and minuses of the Weber conversion?

What I have, a 68 122 two door will never be a show car but I want to get the most fun bang for the buck. Installing the B20 is a given, but I have heard that you can actualy get better performance from the SU than a Weber (no dual webers yet). Looking stock is kind of nice too. I think SU carbs are kind of cool. I dont have much experience with webers. Is this because they dont require constant fussing with? I guess what I am asking is what is likly to get me started toword best performance and reliability given these choices?

Note: The supercharger modification will have to wait for now. Once again groceries prevailed. Maybe in the spring.

Thanks
Chris
