water loss alarm....does anyone know.. 900

Having read in the faq about the water loss alarm a few thoughts struck me:-

1. my 940 doesntr have the square expansion bottle, rather the ovid one.
2. I really dont like the thought of drilling holes in it!
3. I would rather fit a magnetic (reed) switch ti the outside and a floating magnet inside
4. If i cant do 3, how about drilling the hole in the filler cap (easy and cheap to replace) and fitting a vertical float swithc in there...

which lead me to a few questions:-

1. can anyone think of a good way to make a magnet float - that defines where it lands in the tank (i.e. on top of the switch)

2. Can anyone see why you shouldnt drill the hole thru the cap (acepting that you got a good seal on it afterwards)

3. Anyone know what sort of temps the expansion bottle reaches (most switches only seem to be rated to 100 c)

4. any other good ideas...i just hate the concept od adding a hole to thetank itself...feels all wrong...
