warning lights and jumpy idle 200 1984

Paul is right - the bulbs must be the same brand and type (halogen, etc).

When the a/c compressor engages the system adds a little air to allow the idle to stay around 800. So, if the engine runs right only when the a/c is engaged, something is messed up in the air control system.

It may be the idle air control (IAC) as Paul says, or something else. Maybe the IAC is stuck? Tap the IAC with a light hammer when the thing is acting up, see if it changes anything.

Check for dirty throttle body, and be sure throttle position switch is working OK.

Good Luck,

bob
