Overdrive in an '85 240GL buggered 200 1985

My 240 GL wagon has annoyingly slipped into OD by itself (or whatever its called when you get a lit-up arrow on the display and the car wont go beyond 3rd gear). Pressing the OD button makes a click, but nothing else. Funnilly enough, after i filled my tank to the brim the other day i drove out of the petrol station with the light off for once.
Now i was wondering if theres anyway of disconnecting it while i have 4th gear back, or even better fixing the damn button.
People tell my i will probably require soldering but i wouldnt know where to look.

Many thanx
Duncan Maclennan
