Replaced in-tank pump, now idle is uneven 700 1987

I'll try to give brief synopsis of this ordeal.

Had a fuel leak at the bung. Tightened the collar, fixed the leak, but broke ground. Noticed hard start and consistent noise from main pump. Pulled oout in-tank pump, fixed ground, but in process, cracked a hose connector, due to age and rust. Had to splice old male connector onto new pump's harness. Reinstalled everything, had to replace the return line and the main pump feed line as they were now too short. Had to also replace the filler hose, as I had to cut out the old one due to rusty, begrudging clamps.

Now, car still starts a little hard, but not as hard as before, but what I notice most of all is that the idle steadily (every second) revs b/w 800 and 900 or 1000 rpm. I haven't been able to clearly listen yet (it's raining), but the main pump may also periodically be heard while the idel fluctuates.

What could possibly be causing this?
Thanks.
