Oil is coming out from behind the timing belt cover....possible causes? 200

Hello Fellow Brickers.
I opened the hood on my 85 245 w/162K mi. yesterday and was amazed to see that oil had come out from behind the timing belt cover on the right side of the engine and was leaking on the #1 cylinder exhaust manifold port. It looked like a lot of oil came out and even blew back to the firewall. The leak seems intermitten because the engine has had absolutely no leaks after I had replaced the flame trap at 130K. When I run the engine I don't see any oil coming out but it seemed to leak a lot at some point.

My question: What could be the problem and why would it leak intermittenly?
What seals are behind the timing belt cover near where the head attaches to the block?

Thanks in advance.
Kyle 245 162K and 23MPG in the city
