Car smokes with turbo hooked up 700

Asked this one before but only got 1 response. Looking for more. I have a 1990 760 turo wagon that was smoking at idle and very badly during heavy acceleration under turbo boost. I disconnected the wastegate linkage rod from it's post and have been running the car this way for weeks. The smoking has disappeared. Tried hooking the wastegate back up and smoke came right back almost immediatly at idle. Oil seperator and hoses are clear. Any other ideas other than what i'm assuming "the turbo" 195,000 miles on it. TIA
