Oxygen Sensors: difference between pre 93 and later??

Have noted that applications are different and more expensive for the later B 230FT engines. Sometime back I replaced the O2 sensor on my 93 and I do believe it just doesn't run properly since. I used a generic Bosch which I never have had problems with in 91 and earlier models. Is there a different voltage produced which influences the 'brain'?

Can someone enlighten this dim witt or watt??

Thanks,

dick
