Oxygen Sensors: difference between pre 93 and later??

In March of 1993 volvo switched from a three wire O2 sensor to a four wire sensor. I have a 1993 940 turbo and I just recently changed the sensor. Given the different wire configurations, you would not be able to install the wrong sensor because the wiring would not match up. There is one issue with generic sensors. You have to be careful of corrosion where you splice the new wires to the old.
