Ignition feed--will bypass be ok Dr? 200 1983

Sir,

Have an '83 wagon myself and though it's originally a clean SCal kar, wiring is "past it" in engine compartment.

Engine quit while running in Feb, beast was k/o ed while I checked/replaced all ignition components (no spark, fuel air ok.) This is white cap Chrysler system.

New cap, rotor, coil later, turned out the low side of ignition was only getting 2-5 volts when key in "run" or "crank". Reading also fluctuated on VOM. This seemed not so good, so I jumped the coil directly to the fusebox--voila, we had ignition.

My "repair" was to disconnect low side feed to coil replacing it with an "electric" blue bypass wire from fusebox, pos. 11 16 A.

My question: Am i sending too much juice to the coil? Car runs great, good mileage. No ballast resistor in this system. Could I do the same thing to Bosch system if this happens on an '81?

Curiously,

Frank in OH
