Cutting out rusted floorpan... 200 1983

After removing the carpet from the floor behind the driver's seat, I found it was completely rusted out...no wonder the seat rocked back and forth!! Took a coping saw and cut out a square section about 18" by 18"..now will tack weld on a piece of sheet metal to replace the rusted floor. What do I use for sound proofing like the original? I have a can of zinc paint for rustproofing and 2 cans of 3M undercoating. Do I spray the under coating on the inside of the car, under the rug??? What else to use?
Thanks,
el Raidman
