740 Turbo engine 'drumming' noise at speed

Just bought this '89 740 Turbo Intercooler and drove it home 3 hours.

See:

At highway speeds (65mph) I hear a significant "drumming" noise coming from the engine area forward of the passenger compartment.

It seems coordinated with moderate to heavy throttle pressure and a louder exhaust note (drone).

Doesn't sound like the AC compressor and happens if off, as well.

I suspect something with the turbo and/or its connection with the exhaust.

Also, when I brake decisively from speed, the oil light comes on momentarily just before the car stops. Doesn't happen at other times, such as city driving, for example. What is this telling me?
