The Stereo install is making me nuts!! 700

In both my 91 744 TI's, and a friend's 92 740, the door speakers (back...and front if they were there originally) are powered by an amp located under the drivers knee panel. The 3.5" speakers on the dash were driven by the Volvo head unit. To wire an aftermarket stereo PROPERLY you have to cut the stock harness, and also run wires to any of the rear speakers. The "adapter" crutchfield and other places sell only allows you to connect to the stock amp...which is lower powered than most newer head units are. This puts a strain on the internal amp of the head unit, not to mention lesser quality sound. The front speaker wires are fine, they don't touch the amp and go straight from the radio to speakers.

Are you sure you wired up everything properly.

The brown and brown/white striped wire is the front left speaker (dash).
The grey and grey/red stripped wire is the front right speaker (dash).

VERY IMPORTANT: Do not use the 2 yellow/white stripped wires that shared the same port on the stock harness plug...they show up hot (+12v)...these are for the dash lights (dimmer, whatever you want to call it), and MUST be capped together or you'll loose all interior dash lights (use a wire nut and tape). Also, never connect up a "dimmer" even if the radio has the option, can lead to bad things and is really not that usefull anyways. Make sure you cap all wires NOT connected to anything, on the car harnness or the aftermarket radio harness...safety pays.

1991-92 700 series
Orange is your +12v switched
Green/Red stripped is your +12v battery connection (constant).
Black is you ground.
Gray/Green stripped is the power antenna.

For the aftermarket radio check the instruction manual that came with it. Below is a general reference for the wire colors on the harness to what most newer radios SHOULD be, but they may be different. So, check that manual or call a local audio shop and ask them.
