164e overdrive 140-160 1972

Your power for OD solenoid follows this route. Fuse number 4, switch, then through a switch on the tranny that is in series with the solenoid so the OD will not work in any gear but 4th. If this switch is non functioning, you will not get OD.

You can test the 4th gear switch while driving. Just pull the shift lever further to the right and rear. If this gives you OD the change the 4th gear switch. IF it does not, it may still be the 4th gear switch but you will have to test with the auto stopped and you underneath with a test lamp tracing wires.

The indicator light is in parallel with the 4th gear switch after the first switch. If indicator goes on, the 4th gear switch or the solenoid or wires in between are not functioning.

If all the electrical is functioning, and the solenoid reacts to power, you have failed actuating piston seals and the OD will need to coe of the tranny to repair.
