Air Mass Meter Questions 200

After some starting problems, I pulled a 1-2-1 code from the ECU unit, pointing me to the AMM. I tried unplugging the connector to the AMM to "limp home" but still no success with starting up. Is there a way to test the AMM? Should "limp home" always work? How should I properly clean the connection terminals? I want to be very sure of a bad AMM before I buy a new one. Does anyone have any advice? Help is much appreciated.....
