Fuel Mixture Adjustment-'82 240 4-cyl gas K-jet MPG 200 1982

When trying to adjust the idle (running 790-800 RPM)on my engine I found that when I grounded the CIS Blue test point the engine stalled out. I then adjusted the Fuel/Air mixture 1/8 turn clockwise richer. Then the engine just about ran when the test point was grounded.Since I do not have a CO tester I left it alone as I am not sure about the mixture. The engine idles slightly rough but better than before & the cars performance is acceptable otherwise. Is there an alternate test I can use to set the mixture properly?
