Rear Brake Lights Work, sort of.... Only driving during the day until I get this fixed 700

Mike,

It sounds like a grounding problem to me. Check the ground going to the rear hatch. On my 86 245 wagon ... the gound wire broke at the hinge and every time I stepped on the brake the instrument lights came on ... the third brake light was apparently seeking ground through the dash lights. I ran a new ground wire from the body frame to the rear hatch and the light gremlin went away. I'd check the ground to the rear hatch. Good luck.
