Grounding woes? 700

I have a recently acquired 1990 760 turbo wagon. When I first got it I noticed that the head and tail lamps were not acting properly. The tail light on the right side would turn off when the brake pedal was applied and the headlamps were turned on. The indicator on the dash for a burned out bulb came on also when the brake pedal was applied. My problem is that now the car doesn't start and the starter is clicking when I turn the ignition key. The first time that the car did not start I heard the clicking from the starter. This condition stranded me until the car started after 10 minutes of turning the ignition switch. The time that I drove the car after that happening it simply went dead as I was driving the street at 25 mph. When I try to start the car I still hear the starter clicking and in the silence of my garage I also hear other electrical "ticks and pops" in other parts of the car. The headlamps now go off as I start the car and the headlamps have been turned on. I may need more help than anyone out there could provide for me but I'd sure like to take a try to figure this out. Thanks.
