M41 OD tranny parts and rebuild questions 140-160 1971

I just converted my '71 145 from the original 4spd M40 to a M41 OD. The tranny works fine but there are two problems... 1- There is excessive noise in 1st 2nd and 3rd but not 4th or OD. What could this be. 2- This tranny leaks oil like crazy!! I plan on taking it out to put all new gaskets and seals on and hopefully solve the leak. If I wanted to rebuild the tranny while I there where could I find a book to take me step by step with lots of good pictures. And where could I find a parts list and the parts needed to do this.
I am a fairly experenced do-it-yourselfer and I am confident doing anything to my car however I have never been inside a tranny. Am I crazy to try this? Can you help with advice, contacts, anything?
