finding an overdrive unit for a m-46 700

It is most likely a J type needed. I think the PJs showed up in 86 with the electric speedos. John in Washington state could confirm as he has one.

What Rob stated about auto to manual swap.

You will need to measure the length of the output shaft of the M46, and count the splines on the end. When confirming the OD match up, you will need a dowel slighly smaller than the size of the rear tip of the output shaft of the trans. Inserting this into the OD and measuring the depth to the front of the case and then pearing into the OD and verifying the type and number of spines should allow a match up.

There should be an adapter of some type on the trans, like a mini bell housing that the OD bolts onto. If that is not present you will need that as well.

If you are trans swapping, before you add the OD, replace the two actuating piston seals for the OD before install. Cost is about $3.00 for the O-rings and it will save yo from removing the OD later to replace these if the OD does not work from the salvage yard due to these O-rings having failed.
