Rear wiper woes 200 1988

Help!!

I'm new to the world of bricks, having recently gotten a really nice '88 240 wagon. Alas, the rear wiper and the third brake light don't work. It looks like the wires under the hinge have given their all. How can I get to them to fix? The fix itself looks like a solder and shrink tube job, but but big fat fingers won't reach into the hinges. Can I get at them through the headliner, and if so, how do I get it out in the back. I looked through the shop manual and I'm baffled.

Thanks!!
