exhaust mods 200

I have been looking into redoing part of my exhaust system, it's the holes that drove me to it. the exhaust from the resonator forward has been done though. After talking to a muffler guy a number of years ago, I have been under the impression that a muffler shop can do as good a job on a performance setup as the aftermarket kits, if not better. I am looking for opinions on this. Also, has anyone rerouted their tail pipe> I would think that those 2 90 degree bends would not be good for flow so, what I am considering is putting a muffler where the resonator is and where the 90 is that leads to the stock muffler, bending the tailpipe to exit behind the passenger side tire. What does everyone think of this?

87 240dl rust bucket

p.s. this car I refer to as rust bucket with 200,000 miles on it has a perfect heat shield over the catalytic converter!
