stromberg questions 140-160

Strombergs, at least the ones that came off of my 164, have
two holes in the front (well three but one is the throat that
leads to the piston and straight into the motor).

One is rectangular and the other is round. What are these
for? I'm thinking of putting round SU HS6 air filters on my
stromberg and the filters I've got would cover these two holes.

I've also read somewhere that there are gas vent holes on
these carbs and that sometimes they get hooked up incorrectly
resulting in a fire in the motor compartment. What's the best
way to hook up the gas venting system to the charcoal canister
thingy?
thanks
chris
