overdrive troubleshooting m46? 200

I own 82 GLT wagon with 4 speed overdrive. I believe it's the m46...

Here's my problem.. When the car is cold in the morning and I get on the freeway the overdrive has problems engaging. The OD light does not come on. Only until I get it warmed up a little, does it engage. Also, once engaged, it will sometimes jump out of overdrive and I'll have to engage it again. Once the car has been completely warmed up, the overdrive usually stays engaged. I do notice however that if I'm cruising at highway speeds and I disengage the overdrive and try to engage it again, it will not engage. The OD light in the instrument panel does come on but overdrive never engages. However, if I come to a stop and get up to speed again, it engages no problem. Sometimes I can play with the gas a little and it will engage after being disengaged. This usually only occurs under 55 mph. Once I reach 65 mph and disengage and try to reengage, it doesn't happen. At slower speeds, I seem to have no problem engaging, disenging and reengaging again.

I thought maybe this could be a relay problem or silenoid problem...

Any suggestions?

Thankyou
Stefan
